Tantallon Castle is the last medieval curtain castle built in Scotland. Overlooking the Firth of Forth , it was built by William Douglas, 1st Earl of Douglas, in the mid 14th century. It remained in the family until the end of the 15th century when it was besieged by King James IV. The castle was badly damaged in 1528 when James V besieged the castle. It was damaged again during Oliver Cromwell’s invasion of Scotland in 1651. Today it is in the care of Historic Scotland.
