Goya - Portrait of Mariano Goya, the Artist's Grandson, 1827 His grandson as a young man - the last known painting Goya did when he was some 80yrs old and completely deaf after serious illness. He had 6 children, all of whom died and he paints his grandson as if he were his child - with absolute fondness and unconditional love. He is becoming a man as Goya is about to die. His grandson went on to squander Goya's money, his inheritance.
