Open venues including Royal Troon and Turnberry combine with former host Prestwick to create the big three. Sitting in amongst these and just down the road from this year’s Open venue lies Western Gailes Golf Club. Wedged between the waters edge and the railway the thin, crumpled landscape of the course follows the traditional out and in approach of links courses gone by. It has some cracking holes and the par 3 7th is one I like a lot. Par here is well earned. Enjoy today’s flyover and if you are heading to Scotland then don’t forget Western Gailes. I love Ireland for a whole host of reasons - the people, the golf, the scenery and even the weather (sometimes…). Ballyliffin Golf Club is a beautiful 36 hole facility in the North West of Ireland (you need to get up here). It has two courses - the Old and Glashedy Links.
