John Butler Yeats
Artist. Born in Tullyish, County Down. Father of William Butler and John 'Jack' Butler Yeats. He had a short-lived careeer as a lawyer, before turning to painting. He specialised in portraiture, and his painting of John O'Leary is considered to be his masterpiece. In 1907 he moved to the U.S.A. where he became involved with the Ashcan School of painters. Died in New York City. This picture is a self-portrait.

John Butler Yeats
John B. Yeats (1839-1922) - Self Portrait. was an Irish artist and the father of William Butler Yeats, Lily Yeats, Lollie Yeats and Jack B. Yeats. He is probably best known for his portrait of the young William Butler Yeats which is one of a number of his portraits of Irishmen and women in the Yeats museum in the National Gallery of Ireland. His portrait of John O'Leary (1904) is considered to be his masterpiece (Raymond Keaveney 2002)

A print after Jack B Yeats from 1911 published by Maunsel and Company in Dublin. The print is signed in the plate. The print is approximately 3 1/2 inches by 5 inches . The print has been double mounted and will fit into a standard 10 by 8 inch frame. The print is in very good condition for its age, no foxing.
