Spectacular Saturn: Cassini's epic pictures using a one megapixel camera
7 May 2004 It took seven years for Cassini to reach Saturn, having launched from Cape Canaveral in the US on 15 October 1997 and flown by Venus, Earth and Jupiter along the way. This natural colour view of Saturn was taken during Cassini’s initial approach in 2004. It’s a composite of just two images which were taken from a distance of 28.2m km (17.6m miles) from the planet. The image scale is 169km (105 miles) a pixel.
