Hardy coastal shrub. Use for foliage contrast & in dry exposed sites. Yellow flowers summer. Clip after flowering. Brachyglottis greyii is rare in the wild & is confined to the southern North Island. Primarily a coastal species of rock outcrops and bluffs but may extend inland up river gorges and in suitably exposed bluff habitats. 1mX1.5m

Senecio greyi, year-round interest. Dave's garden ppl say: This is a common landscaping plant in Seattle, Washington, typically attaining a height of 2-3 feet and a spread of 3-5 feet. It easily survives local wet winters and temperatures down to 15F. Great, tough plant for sunny exposures and drought tolerant.

Attractive yellow flowering spreading shrub with grey felted foliage.

For Foliage Follow-up this month I’m keeping it simple and highlighting a favorite combination in my garden. So much color and texture and none of it from flowers… I see this scene at least 3 times a day when I return home from walking the dog, sometimes even more than that. It never fails to thrill me. Just a few short weeks ago this was the scene in front of our living room window: Now it looks like this: I’ve previously posted about our new short, but trunking, Yucca rostrata (Alberta) which we bought to anchor this area, I couldn't wait to plant her! Truth be told Andrew made pretty quick work of removing the Rhododendron, cutting off the rest of the branches… And working the stump with the rock bar and shovel… Before long…empty! Time to do a little plant placement and planting... And…
