When I first started doing freehand machine embroidery on water-soluble fabric I made a lot of mistakes. In this post I chat about one mistake in particular. The mistake relates to drawing on water soluble fabric, a troublesome issue for many. So if you are interested in learning what I used early on (with disastrous result) and what I use now (that I know better). check it out. www.meredithwoolnough.com.au/blog Water Soluble Fabric Ideas, Water Soluble Stabilizer Embroidery, Freemotion Embroidery Textile Art, Dissolvable Fabric Embroidery, Free Motion Sewing Art, Water Soluble Fabric Embroidery, Free Motion Embroidery Ideas, Solvy Fabric, Free Motion Embroidery Tutorial

When I first got my sewing machine, I new this is what I really wanted to have a go at... thread sketching or free motion sewing. It is when you sew without the machine 'feeding' the fabric through. Having free motion to draw with the thread on your fabric. I've been asked numerous times for advice on this subject but have found it very hard to explain having never done a tutorial before, but also because everyone's machines are different. free motion foot for a Brother * So, you will need a…

Washing the water soluble stabiliser out of my embroideries is still my favourite part of the process. It’s the moment they come alive. ❤️

This red coral fan is my newest embroidered creation. It has been stitched with a freehand machine embroidery technique on a water soluble substrate. It’s a wonderfully simple but versatile way to make things.

Once this piece is dried it will then be shadow mounted onto a board ready for framing.

If you would ever like to learn how to do this kind of embroidery I have a book available and also teach online courses. Links to both can be found in my bio.

Thank you for all who read their way down to the end of my last post - it was much longer than first anticipated! I hope you've enjoyed visiting the blogs I nominated (apologies in advance for the Google-suggested translation for a certain sentence in Ingrid's post - I have suggested an alternative to Mr Google, but he's ignored me so far!). Right, where were we...free machining, I think! In class we have been continuing to practice our free machining skills, now using free motion stitching…

There are a few places left in my forthcoming full day workshops, just comment below if you’re interested and I’ll send you some details. I’m based just north of Lewes, East Sussex.
