A Spriggan is a fae creature from Cornish folklore. Traditionally they should look like a wizened old man but for a movie project I did these designs for it's been sort of combined with The Green Man, also from English folktales, a spirit of the woods who looks after woodland creatures...I think in the movie he was probably a little more sinister! He was supposed to made up of dead wood that cracked and broke when he moved.
