The back of the shell has been left natural or painted white with a gilt trim both on the back and on the front to illuminate the design placed in the center. Each shell is sealed with a gloss finish for protection. Since these shells were once in a natural environment, expect imperfections. However, the design that you've chosen will not be affected.
