There is a touch of magic and seafaring legend to be found in the beautiful Dún na Sí Amenity & Heritage Park in County Westmeath, with a sculpture depicting the legendary Pirate Queen Grace O’Malley. A fearsome and notorious leader who ruled the seas along the Wild Atlantic Way, she was known by many different aliases: this statue is known as “Gráinne Óg” (young Gráinne), and represents the youthful warrior’s connection to the sea.
