Things To Do In Guatemala City
I often feel as though the capital cities in Central America get a bad rap. San Jose, Bogotá, Managua, are not often looked at as being go-to tourist destinations. Guatemala city is no different in this regard. When most people think of visiting Guatemala, they probably think about Antigua and Atitlán. Yet if you are able to slow down, and take the time to experience the city, you will be able to see the beautiful cultural practices that are deeply rooted in their ways of life. Here, I have documented the best things to do in Guatemala City to elevate your vacation.
Things To Do In Antigua, Guatemala
Tucked amongst large volcanoes in Guatemala lies the city of Antigua, a town that seems to jump out of a story book. Multi colored buildings, centuries old architecture, and rich indigenous culture combine to create one of the most picturesque areas of the country, which was dedicated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. There’s so many things to do in Antigua that will make you want to put it on your travel list every year. In this article I will share with you my opinion on what to do in Antigua Guatemala based on my own experiences!

Things To Do In Guatemala City
I wish I had been able to spend more time in this wonderful city. There were so many more things to do in Guatemala City that I wanted to get to but sadly just didn’t have time for. Even still though, I was able to experience the warmth and kindness of the people and get an idea of the types of things I would want to do when I return. I cannot recommend this city enough and I hope one day you and your friends will be able to experience it for yourselves.
Tikal, Guatemala
These ancient Mayan pyramids in the Guatemalan region of Tikal National Park were used to film sequences on the rebel base on Yavin 4 in A New Hope. Interior shots were filmed at RAF Cardington in Bedfordshire in the UK. Though tons of scenes have been filmed on sound stages and sets, real-life locations from around the world can also be seen. From the deserts of Tunisia to the woods of Northern California, here are some Star Wars filming locations you can visit.
Tikal – Peten, Guatemala
Tikal lay forgotten in the rainforest until it was rediscovered by European explorers in the 1850s. The Tikal ruins are the biggest attraction of Tikal National Park. Tikal reached its artistic peak between 600 and 800 after which it suffered significant artistic deterioration. The highest Tikal monument is Pyramid IV, which is the westernmost of the major ruins. It is also the site of the Temple of the 2 Headed Serpent and is one of the tallest pre-Columbian structures in the Western Hemisphere
Explore The Yucatan Peninsula
The Yucatan peninsula lies between the Gulf of Mexico to the west and north and the Caribbean Sea to the east and covers approximately 76,300 square miles. Situated in southeastern Mexico, it is composed almost entirely of limestone and is home to the Mexican nations of Yucatan, Campeche, and Quintana Roo. It also comprises the northern parts of Belize and Guatemala. This entire compact peninsula is famous for its tropical rainforests and jungles, as well as its ancient Mayan sites.
A Travel Guide To Semuc Champey
Tucked away in the densely forested mountains of Alta Verapaz, Semuc Champey’s limestone formations also includes little caves. So, you can swim into them and take a look out from underneath a waterfall.
Visit the Natural Pools of Semuc Champey, A Guatemalan Paradise!
Semuc Champey is a set of crystalline pools which have become extremely popular with travellers recently. Semuc being a part of the backpacker trail in Guatemala has therefore quickly grown to be Guatemala’s best spots for swimming and sunning. But aside from relaxing at these calm pools, it also offers a series of trails or hanging bridges (that extend into the nearby forest) which the travellers can walk along with!
