The Leiden 1 Maccabees manuscript.Codex PER F 17.9v.By far the most important is Peroni F 17 1.This codex dates from the 1st half 10th cent.and contains the first book of Maccabees and the fourth book of the Epitoma Rei Militaris by Vegetius. It was probably started in the Abbey of Saint Gall and finished at the Abbey of Reichenau. Peroni F 17 2 is a younger manuscript dating from the 2nd half 15th cent.It contains an index and vocabulary on Vegetius's Epitoma Rei Militaris and excerpts.

This ivory panel was made for a liturgical book such as a Sacramentary. It depicts St Gregory at his writing desk. Inspired by the Holy Spirit (symbolised by the dove on his shoulder) he is writing the Canon of the Mass. Three scribes below carry on the copying the liturgical text. This cover is one of a group of three produced by the same artist.
